It's a project that doesn't look like a project
Working Rite is based around the concept of a 'deal' that both the youngsters and tradesmen agree to and understand. It's a brokered 6 month work placement - a working partnership between the Trainee and Tradesman. Both regard it as real work - not a 'project' or a course.
The Deal - for the Trainee
It looks, feels, and pays like a real job
You gain real practical skills
You gain real on-site experience
You are treated as one of the workforce
It's a great route onto an apprenticeship
The Deal - for the Tradesman
It's a hassle free recruitment process with no obligation
There's no paperwork mountain
You get an extra pair of hands for minimal cost
No expenditure on tools or PPE
If things don't go according to plan, there's always backup
For both parties - it's real
How the project is managed
Local employers are carefully recruited by
an area-based Working Rite Project Manager (based in the local
host organisation - usually a housing association). This Project
Manager shields the employers from the paperwork and bureaucracy,
thus making the deal very attractive for busy small firms.
Working Rite is a hightly cost-effective
method for placing non-academic school leavers on the path
to maturity and sustainable employment. Classroom-based training
has a major cost component and this cost is reduced in Working
Rite projects with resources focussed instead on delivering
an effective support framework for the youngsters and employers.
Working Rite's main focus is the skilled
manual trades of construction, textiles and garments trades,
printing, food preparation, metal forming, welding, vehicle
trades, electrical trades, farming, hoticulture and forestry.
